Founded in 1942, Canadian Institute of Management (CIM) is a not for profit educational organization established to promote managerial development and excellence. CIM is the only organization in Canada that grants designations recognizing general management skills and expertise.

The Canadian Institute of Management diligently promotes the interests of the management profession and is committed to leadership in promoting management professionalism, efficiency, effectiveness and excellence in individuals and organizations.

CIM is a federally chartered educational institute that is licensed to award the following professional designations:

  • Certified in Management (C.I.M.) designation is attained by having two (2) years Canadian Supervisory/Management experience and completing the Certificate in Management and Administration (CIMA) program which offers an eight subject study course ranging from Canadian Business Law to Managerial Communications, Finance Management
  • Professional Manager (P. Mgr.) Designation recognizes individuals with superior management competencies who have met an established set of criteria.
  • Chartered Manager (C.Mgr.) Designation provides validation to outstanding adherence to the theory and practice of ethical management and the ongoing development of new methods in the management arts and sciences that focus on sustainability and leadership.

Holders of these prestigious designations support the on-going development of the management profession by subscribing to programs of continuing education and supporting the Canadian Institute of Management Code of Ethics.

The Institute also offers a Certificate in Supervisory Management (CSM) to members who have completed the required four courses, which are Introduction to Management, Managerial Communications and Canadian Business Law and one optional course.

Across Canada, there are thousands of continually enrolled professionals that participate in activities involving Branch Boards and National Board Committees, which contribute to establishing policies and programs that meet the needs of the local community. This allows our membership an opportunity to stand for nomination to a Branch Board as well as to work with Business leaders and Educators in the community, and to interact with colleagues in non business like setting.

Other benefits include the “Continuous Professional Excellence in Learning and Development”, program that ensures Professional Managers are keeping abreast of the latest management techniques and principles in their field and access to “White Papers” containing well thought out theories, principles, and practices of academics and leaders in the business community as well as a paid subscription to our CIM magazine “The Canadian Manager”, which is published quarterly.

The National Board offers discounts to members by preferred suppliers. As well as our web site offers a dedicated page where you can post your resume or CV and view posted positions by firms across the country.
